Asst. secretary of state makes appearance at Carroll College as part of Montana swing

Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Global Public Affairs Bill Russo made an appearance at Carroll College on Wednesday as part of an ongoing effort by the U.S. Department of State to better connect with Americans.

Russo was brought to Montana by the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center on the campus of the University of Montana with the intention of participating in the center’s “Mansfield Dialogue” Tuesday evening, but fog at the Missoula International Airport canceled three attempted flights.

Carroll College President John Cech said former Gov. Marc Racicot helped to organize the small luncheon of about 40 people Wednesday morning in a conference room at the college’s gymnasium.

Attendees included Helena Mayor Wilmot Collins; City Commissioner Andy Shirtliff; members of the college’s board of trustees; the heads of the departments of history and political science; donors and three representatives of Carroll’s student government.
