UM faculty, students respond to future curriculum changes, academic restructuring

Complicated times lie ahead for the University of Montana, a fact that administration officials told members of the Faculty Senate “cannot be denied” at the Feb. 8 meeting.

This coming fall semester, incoming freshmen will encounter a revamped course catalog and a reorganized academic structure that, officials say, will better reflect the demands of students and the budget realities faced by the flagship university.

No details have been released as administrators say plans will be based on rigorous review of programs and faculty and student engagement. But it’s likely that one change will be a shift of resources away from the humanities toward areas of study seeing growing student demand such as health, environmental sciences and business, UM officials told the Missoulian.
