Missoula Public Library and Homeless Outreach Team win MLA Awards

The Missoula Public Library recently received the Library Program of the Year award for its All-Ages Metal Show held last summer. This free music show featured Montana bands Walking Corpse Syndrome, Elephant Graveyard and damnthebadluck. All donations generously given by attendees benefited the Free Verse Writing Project, a Missoula-based organization that offers art and writing workshops to incarcerated Montana youth. The MLA (Modern Language Association) awards committee also selected the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) as the recipient of the Special Friend to Libraries Award, which is given to those who have rendered outstanding service in support of library interests within their Montana communities. The Homeless Outreach Team was recognized for the role its team plays in connecting some of the most vulnerable library patrons with vital resources and services on a near daily basis.
