Montana governor gets big job, but he may be angling for White House

Every rumormonger in town had it wrong. President Donald Trump didn’t slip into Santa Fe for the National Governors Association convention.

Trump had more important matters to sort through. He pecked away on Twitter, advising the National Football League commissioner how to punish players if they exercise their constitutional right to peacefully demonstrate during the national anthem.

Then the host governor, Susana Martinez of New Mexico, sent word to her colleagues that she was ill Saturday. She missed all the afternoon panel discussions, including one she was supposed to participate in.
