Helena City Commission OKs upping fees at golf course, swimming pool

The Helena City Commission has voted unanimously to increase fees at Bill Roberts Municipal Golf Course and Last Chance Splash Waterpark and Pool in the hopes of narrowing the gap of what the general fund pays to keep both operations going.

The 5-0 vote came Monday after comments made by Ken Bailey, 70, who said, according to information provided by the city, that about 30% of the revenue from season pass sales comes from senior citizens. He said the increase raises that to 54% of the increase.

“I am kind of puzzled. Why would you stick it to senior citizens for this change in fees?” he asked during the public comment portion of Monday’s meeting.

Bailey said there were no increases for punch cards or green fees, which are paid for by visitors, business people taking others out to golf.

He said the increase goes to residents, not nonresidents.
