WYDOT launches online public meeting for Statewide Rail Plan update

he Wyoming Department of Transportation has launched an online, self-guided public meeting as part of its update to the Statewide Rail Plan, giving residents and stakeholders an opportunity to learn more about the process and provide feedback.

The online meeting is open now and will remain available through Jan. 31, 2026, and can be accessed at wyomingstatewiderailplan.com/onlinemeeting/.

According to WYDOT, the online meeting includes information on the Statewide Rail Plan process, goals and objectives, including applicable Federal Railroad Administration guidance. It also provides an overview of the existing Wyoming rail system and current rail operations, along with an assessment of current and future needs and opportunities for rail transportation in the state.

The meeting will also outline how the Wyoming Grade Crossing Action Plan will support planning efforts to improve grade crossing safety statewide.

WYDOT is requesting input from stakeholders and members of the public on rail-related needs, priorities and opportunities across Wyoming.

The updated Statewide Rail Plan will serve as a long-range planning document for rail infrastructure and improvements that align with the goals of WYDOT and the Federal Railroad Administration. The plan will establish policies related to freight and passenger rail transportation and identify priorities and strategies to enhance rail service throughout the state. It will also serve as a foundation for future federal and state rail investment opportunities.

Members of the public who would like a physical copy of the survey questions may request one by contacting the project team using the contact information provided on the project website. Project Website: www.wyomingstatewiderailplan.com
