Sheehy Hosts Town Halls with Gallatin County Students

Senator Tim Sheehy (R–Mont.) visited Three Forks and Manhattan to host town halls and meet with local students to discuss leadership, service, and opportunities available through the United States Service Academies.

Sheehy, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and former Navy SEAL officer, told students that attending a service academy can open doors to a lifetime of service.

“My wife and I met at the Naval Academy. We were proud to serve our country, and we both know how rewarding it is to live a life of service after attending a service academy,” Sheehy said. “That’s why I’m encouraging the next generation of Montanans to serve and educating kids on all the possibilities they have by attending a service academy or joining the military. There’s no higher calling in life than serving your country, and it is my honor to help young Montanans reach their full potential and nominate the next generation of warfighters for appointment to the U.S. Service Academies.”

Montanans interested in applying to a service academy must complete both a direct application to the academy and a congressional nomination. Appointments are highly competitive, based on academics, physical fitness, extracurricular involvement, leadership, and motivation for military service. Graduates are required to serve at least five years in the armed forces.

The deadline to apply for Fall 2026 admission is November 1, 2025.

In March, President Donald J. Trump appointed Sheehy to the U.S. Naval Academy Board of Visitors, which oversees matters related to morale, discipline, curriculum, finances, and facilities at the academy.

Sheehy graduated from the Naval Academy in 2008 with a degree in history and went on to serve as a Navy SEAL officer and team leader, deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan, South America, and the Pacific. His wife, Carmen, a former Marine Corps officer, also graduated from the Naval Academy.
