Mix-up prompts nearly 3K election ballots to be re-sent in Lewis and Clark County

Nearly 3,000 ballots will be re-sent to three precincts following what is being described as a human error sent some city of Helena ballots to Lewis and Clark County residents and vice versa, officials said Tuesday.

Lewis and Clark County Clerk and Recorder/Treasurer Amy Reeves said it was the first time staff were using a new system for the primary. The error was made in precincts 6, 12 and 15, which have some overlap of city and county residents.

She said some county residents received city ballots and some city residents received county ballots.

Reeves said the problem was due to “human error.”

“This is not the first time it has happened, but it is the first time in the new system,” she said.

Connor Fitzpatrick, Lewis and Clark County Elections Division supervisor, said the ballots are fine, but the people who received the ballots received the wrong ones. He said he hoped to have all the new ballots mailed out by Friday.
