July 4 in Queen City: Helena salutes Old Glory with Centennial Park celebration

Nearly 1,000 people attended the Capital City July 4th Celebration on Thursday at Centennial Park sponsored by the Helena Ambassadors.

The event included the raising of the summer-weight flag at the park, which was delivered the Montana Department of Natural Resources Helicopter Team to Centennial Park.

Over 1,000 people gathered Thursday at Centennial Park for the annual changing of the flag.

Nearly 1,800 free hot dogs were served by the Helena Lions Club, and 1,500 root beer floats were served by volunteers from Valley Bank, and sunscreen and chilled bottled water provided by St. Peter’s Health. Safeway/Albertsons provides the hot dogs and buns and the ice cream.

Boy Scouts and other volunteers carried and raised the flag Thursday at Centennial Park.
