Governor declares March agriculture month in Montana

Gov. Greg Gianforte has proclaimed March as Montana Agriculture Month, March 17-23 as Montana Agriculture Week and March 19 as Montana Agriculture Day.

“Montana is known around the world for its superior-quality beef and commodities,” Gianforte said Tuesday during a visit to Double X Bar Farm & Ranch in Helena, where he issued the proclamation.

Agriculture is Montana’s No. 1 industry, with more than 27,000 farms and ranches statewide, the governor’s office said.

Montana’s 58.1 million acres in farms and ranches ranks second in the nation behind Texas, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In 2022, Montana had $4.2 billion in Agriculture Sector Production, the USDA reported.

Gianforte said it’s important for Montanans to uplift producers and “support the folks who nourish our communities, create good-paying jobs, and add value to our supply chain.”
