GORDON DISAPPOINTED WYOMING DIDN’T SECURE OCCIDENTAL LAND PURCHASE

CASPER, Wyo. — Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon’s office said on Thursday, Aug. 19 that the governor is disappointed Wyoming will be unable to purchase Occidental Petroleum land and mineral rights.

Orion Mine Finance announced earlier Thursday that it had secured a deal to purchase Occidental’s Wyoming, Colorado and Utah Land Grant assets for $1.33 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2020, and has a footprint of some 4.5 million mineral acres and 1 million fee surface acres, the release said.

Gordon and other members of the State Loan and Investment Board had participated in the bid process to potentially purchase the land and mineral rights from Occidental.
