Wyoming Legislature Committee split on controversial Education Bill: Focus shifts to parental notifications
The Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Education Committee meeting on Tuesday took a dramatic turn as State Rep. Landon Brown, R-Cheyenne, led discussions on a draft bill that aimed to ban the teaching of sexual orientation and gender identity themes to children in kindergarten through third grade. Brown set the tone early, emphasizing that compromises would be necessary, and his prediction turned out to be prophetic.
The contentious bill, named the Parental Rights in Education bill, also included a provision compelling school districts to promptly notify parents of any changes in “services or monitoring” related to their students’ mental, emotional, or physical health.
