Runners took to the streets of Helena on Saturday for the 50th anniversary of the Governor’s Cup, an event that offers a large selection of races.

There were 2,371 runners overall. There were 135 runners in the marathon, 340 runners in the half marathon, 420 in the 10K, 1,297 in the 5K, 38 in the marathon relay and 141 in the fun run, officials with race sponsors Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana said.

It was the biggest field since 2016.

“It was a gorgeous day to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Governor’s Cup,” Bryan Haines, Governor’s Cup race director, said. “The Helena community supports this event so much and it was clearly shown today. People were cheering on runners throughout all our courses and the positive energy at the finish line was amazing. ”

Runners make their way through the starting gate on Wickes Road early in the morning while participating Saturday in the full marathon during the Governor’s Cup.
