Governor Gordon Outlines “The Essentials” Budget, Emphasizes Wyoming’s Competitive Edge

At the Wyoming Business Alliance’s Governor’s Business Forum in Laramie, Governor Mark Gordon (R-Wyoming) presented his upcoming budget, dubbed “The Essentials,” while urging continued focus on workforce, energy, education, water, tourism, and rural healthcare to secure the state’s long-term prosperity.

Gordon emphasized that the budget is designed to prioritize core areas critical to both residents and businesses. Key elements include workforce development, competitive compensation for state employees, business-ready communities, low taxes, streamlined permitting, and building a trained workforce that supports good-paying jobs and career opportunities that encourage residents to stay in Wyoming.

Addressing proposals to revert state spending to pre-pandemic levels, Gordon stressed efficiency over nostalgia, questioning why 2019 should serve as a benchmark. He called for lean and disciplined government while ensuring that essential services for Wyoming citizens and businesses remain strong.

The Governor also highlighted the role of local governance in the state’s framework, noting that Wyoming’s Constitution emphasizes accountability and responsibility at the local level. He framed this approach as a cornerstone for maintaining the state’s competitive advantage and delivering practical solutions to everyday challenges.

“Our state is in good hands and our future is very, very bright,” Gordon said, underscoring Wyoming’s balance of rights, responsibility, and opportunity for residents.
