White Sulphur Springs man dies in crash near Townsend, 4 others injured

An 87-year-old White Sulphur Springs man died and four other people were injured in an Aug. 31 crash that occurred between two vehicles near Townsend, authorities said Thursday.

The man was driving his Dodge Ram eastbound at about 2 p.m. on U.S. Highway 12 near mile marker 2.3 in Broadwater County when he made a left turn and failed to yield the right of way, the Montana Highway Patrol said. He turned in front of a westbound GMC Sierra driven by a 32-year-old Townsend man.

The Sierra hit the right front of the Ram, authorities said, adding the driver of the Ram was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected.

Other than the 32-year-old driver, occupants of the Sierra included a 34-year-old woman, a 6-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl. All were wearing seat belts and suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
