Missoulian week in review: Local news recap for Sept. 7-13

At least two University of Montana student-athletes have signed a deal supporting U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, among the first paid political endorsements by student-athletes in Montana.

The endorsements, the names of the students who accepted were first reported by the Montana Kaimin student newspaper, were a part of a large-scale effort by a political organization called “Montana Together” that is not affiliated with the senator’s campaign to collect UM athlete videos supporting Tester, who is up for reelection.

“The campaign had no knowledge of these actions from an outside group, and we are not in communication with them,” a spokesperson for Tester’s campaign said in a statement Friday.

The community helped keep her business going through the COVID-19 pandemic, and now Mallory Ottariano wants to say “thank you” to Missoula.

Youer, a locally owned clothing factory, will host a grand opening celebration at its new headquarters, called “The Youniverse,” on Saturday.
