Lolo National Forest seeks information on three ‘suspicious’ wildfires

The Lolo National Forest says they’re looking for more information on what officials say are three fires northwest of Missoula that started under “suspicious” circumstances.

Missoula air quality shifted toward “unhealthy for sensitive groups” on Saturday as area wildfires expanded.

“Firefighters from the Ninemile Ranger District on the Lolo National Forest and Frenchtown Rural Fire Department responded to three fires this weekend within the same vicinity,” a press release from the U.S. Forest Service said. “The fires were all located approximately seven miles northwest of Ninemile, and a half mile north of Ninemile Road on National Forest lands.”

Ninemile is about a half-hour west of Missoula.

None of the three fires are currently listed on InciWeb, the federal database for wildfires.

The Kennedy fire was reported early Monday morning. It was estimated at 16 acres as of Sept. 9. Firefighters established a dozer line around the perimeter and continue to improve containment.
