Keep Banks Accountable, Not Controlled

The fight against debanking is escalating, and Montana is on the front lines. Across the country, financial institutions have been used as tools to silence conservatives, cutting off essential banking services. While President Trump took action to protect conservatives from financial discrimination, new legislative efforts risk backfiring. Instead of defending conservative values, they could force banks to provide services to pro-abortion groups and other radical organizations. Policies like these strengthen the very institutions that stand against Montana’s core beliefs.

Attorney General Austin Knudsen has led the charge against debanking, fighting back against financial institutions that discriminate against conservatives, gun manufacturers, and pro-life organizations. His efforts have been critical in ensuring fair access to banking. However, misguided regulations could undo this progress by requiring banks to serve all entities equally—forcing conservative financial institutions to support organizations that fund abortion clinics and anti-life activism.

Montana lawmakers must reject policies that weaken conservative financial institutions. Other states have fallen into the same trap, enacting broad mandates that inadvertently push conservative banks to fund radical agendas. Knudsen has set a strong example of principled leadership in resisting debanking. Montana must follow his lead and ensure that its financial system remains free from coercion. The time to act is now—to protect Montana’s conservative future.
