Great Falls Rep. Hamlett facing fines for campaign finance violations

Helena – The Commissioner of Political Practices ruled that Rep. Brad Hamlett (D-Great Falls) violated campaign finance regulations during his 2016 campaign.

In his 10-page ruling, Commissioner of Political Practices Jeff Mangan found that Mr. Hamlett failed to properly report nearly $5,000 in campaign expenditures, failed to report nearly $2,000 in debt payments and failed to file all necessary campaign finance reports.

Mr. Hamlett is one of nearly a dozen Democratic lawmakers found to have violated campaign finance regulations during the 2016 election cycle.

The Commissioner of Political Practices office has referred Mr. Hamlett’s case to the Lewis & Clark County Attorney’s office for prosecution. If the County Attorney’s office chooses not to prosecute, the Commissioner can settle the case with fines or prosecute the case in district court.
