Gianforte is putting Montana on a path to prosperity

Governor Greg Gianforte’s bold tax cut proposals represent a significant step toward financial relief and long-term economic growth for Montanans. By reducing income tax rates and implementing a homestead rate cut, the governor’s plan will put more money back into the pockets of hardworking families and small business owners, fostering prosperity across the state.

Since taking office in 2021, Governor Gianforte has been committed to simplifying Montana’s tax code. Under his leadership, the number of income tax brackets has been reduced from seven to two, and the tax rate most Montanans pay has been lowered from 6.9% to 5.9%. The governor’s latest budget proposal, the Path to Security and Prosperity, goes even further, ensuring that the income tax rate continues to drop while expanding the earned income tax credit to benefit lower- and middle-income workers. These reforms encourage economic growth by rewarding work, stimulating job creation, and making Montana a more attractive place to live and do business.

The property tax relief component of the plan is equally essential. The governor’s bipartisan Property Tax Task Force has proposed a permanent homestead rate cut, which is projected to lower property taxes for Montana homeowners by 15% and for small businesses by 18%. This critical measure will provide immediate and lasting relief to more than 215,000 homeowners and 32,000 small businesses, while also benefiting over 130,000 renters. By reducing this financial burden, Montanans will be able to invest more in their families, businesses, and communities.

Governor Gianforte’s approach is clear: putting Montanans first by reducing their tax burden and ensuring long-term financial stability. His Path to Security and Prosperity not only supports working families and small businesses but also lays the foundation for sustainable economic growth. The legislature must act swiftly to pass this plan and deliver the meaningful, permanent tax relief that Montanans deserve.
