East Helena man convicted in Jan. 6 insurrection speaks to ’60 Minutes’

An East Helena man convicted for his participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection in Washington, D.C., told “60 Minutes” in a story broadcasted Sunday he still believes the 2020 election was stolen and that his actions that day were patriotic.

Jerod Hughes, 39, who along with his older brother, Joshua, pleaded guilty to obstruction of an official proceeding, spoke to CBS journalist Scott Pelley for a story by the television news magazine that included U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves, retired conservative federal judge Thomas Griffith and Officer Daniel Hodges of the DC Metropolitan Police.

“I still feel very strongly,” Hughes, 39, said when Pelley says he must have felt deep commitment to drive 2,000 miles from Montana to Washington, D.C. “This way this country is headed – my paycheck – my wife is disabled and it is hell for us to try and make it with the tens of thousands of dollars of medical bills and a lot of us see Donald Trump, the outsider coming
