Longtime Butte legislator Bob Pavlovich died Saturday in Sheridan, Wyoming. The Butte Democrat and one-time owner of the Met Tavern at 1375 Harrison Ave., was 95.

Pavlovich served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1950. He also represented Butte in the Montana Legislature, first winning a House seat in 1978 and serving through 1999. He introduced a bill in 1993 to construct a veterans home in southwest Montana and continued to champion the project until a home was built. It opened in Butte in June 2021.

His wife, Kathy Pavlovich, died on Feb. 15, 2021. They met in San Francisco in 1962 and married later that year in Reno, Nevada.

U.S. Sen. Jon Tester issued a statement on Pavlovich Monday.

“Bob Pavlovich was a dedicated public servant, fierce advocate for veterans, and pillar of the Butte community,” Tester said. “Bob was a force leading the decades-long fight for the Southwest Montana Veterans Home and it was a great honor to work alongside him to get the home’s doors open. His work for southwest Montana veterans will be felt for generations to come, and he will be sorely missed.”
