Burgum finds spotlight in chairing Western Governors’ Association
Though Gov. Doug Burgum remains mum on a 2020 re-election bid, he’s already planning another type of term.
Burgum is the new chairman of the Western Governors’ Association, a coalition of 22 governors of western states and territories. He has set the organization’s 2020 annual meeting for June 29 to July 2 in Medora. The former software executive and first-term Republican elected in 2016 takes the reins of the group as half of its membership is new to office, including South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.
“Being elected to lead the Western Governors’ Association is a tremendous honor, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to build upon the bipartisan, commonsense policy development that has become synonymous with WGA,” Burgum said in a statement.
