Testing event held at Grand Forks' Alerus Center

A COVID-19 testing event held at Grand Forks’ Alerus Center was expected to test 1,000 people, although the results of the event aren’t yet known.

The test was conducted by various agencies, including Grand Forks Public Health, Grand Forks Emergency Management, the North Dakota Department of Health and the North Dakota National Guard.

The drive-through event began at 9 a.m. The wait time for cars that arrived around 10:30 a.m. was about two hours, although the vehicles in the coordinated event consistently moved forward throughout the morning. The actual testing — limited to a throat swab conducted by masked workers — took only moments.

There was no cost and health insurance was not processed.

According to a release sent to media prior to the event, people who test positive for COVID-19 will be notified by phone within 24 to 72 hours. Efforts will be made to contact those with a negative result within 72 hours. However, results may take longer, depending on state lab processing.
