Snow blast could deter Helena-area school buses

School bus cancellations or delays due to incoming levels of snow could be on the way, according to a Tuesday news release from Helena Public Schools.
The Helena Public Schools’ Transportation Department team will drive through its routes to determine whether there will be bus trip delays or cancellations starting at 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Parents are encouraged by the school system to check the district website (https://helenaschools.org/) and Facebook page for any of the possible delays, which will be posted by 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Drew VanFossen, the district’s transportation manager, said in the release that bus drivers in Helena are well-trained and well-equipped for the winter weather. He continued by adding that they are also prepared to make changes due to road conditions as well.

The district’s website reminds parents and guardians to dress their students for the weather and to not leave them unattended at the bus stops if conditions deteriorate.
Also per the release, the decisions made by the district are made on a route-by-route basis in order to identify whether or not the roads could be hazardous, VanFossen said.
