It is interesting to note that three of the four most popular religions in the world hold Abraham as their spiritual father: Islam, Judaism and Christianity.

As a Christian, studying the life and call of Sarah and Abraham can help us better dialogue with our Jewish and Muslim friends.

However, there are even greater reasons for studying the life and call of Sarah and Abraham. As the Apostle Paul says in Romans 4:16, “That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring — not only to the adherent of the law, but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.”

Now I am sure that when Paul said this, he had in mind Abraham’s two great steps of faith recorded in Genesis chapters 12 & 22. But I am so thankful that the Holy Spirit recorded a story like this one in Genesis 12:4-13:4. These faith heroes of ours completely blow it. I mean read the text for yourself. Can we really call this passage “Footsteps of Faith” material?
