Semper Fi: Memorial service held at Fort Harrison for Vietnam veteran

Nearly 100 people attended a memorial service Friday for George E. Peterson Jr., 77, a Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He had no family, Montana VA officials said, adding he died July 6 in the Helena area. The Fort Harrison VA Medical Center campus held a service for him at the Montana State Cemetery and invited the public to attend. Peterson was born June 14, 1946, in Mojave, California, and enlisted in the Marines on Oct. 18, 1966, the VA said. He served in Vietnam as an engine equipment mechanic. He left the Marines Sept. 16, 1972, as a corporal, E4.
