Spohn Ranch, the skatepark construction contractor from Los Angeles, completed the second phase of construction on the skatepark in mid-August. The Grand Forks Park District plans to finish the grading, seeding and fencing to fully complete the second phase.
Depending on contractor availability and weather, this work will either be completed this fall or first thing in the spring of 2022.
“Phase two has only been complete for a few weeks and we are already seeing visitors from all over the area traveling to Grand Forks use the skatepark,” said Jill Nelson, director of operations and community relations for the Grand Forks Park District. “With features like a skate bowl, quarter pipes, ramps, a vertical wall, and more, Grand Forks is now on the map for having a destination skatepark in our region.”
The first phase, completed in 2018, cost $350,000 and the second phase cost $450,000.
“Roughly 90% of construction funds were raised through donations resulting from granted funds, the generosity of our community members, and the dedication of our Foundation’s Skatepark Committee,” Nelson said.
