‘Prescription Drug Take Back’ event set for Saturday in Lewis and Clark County

The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s office is partnering with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency to provide a “Prescription Drug Take Back” day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

It will be held at: Safeway, 611 N. Montana Ave.; Albertsons, 3151 N. Montana Ave.; and Lincoln Post Office, 237 Main St., Lincoln.

The event is an effort to rid homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Medicines that languish in homes are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses from these drugs.

No questions are asked when a person drops off their unwanted prescriptions.

The Law and Justice Center, 406 Fuller Ave., has a drop box that is available to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
