Helena parents face felony charges after child found severely malnourished

A Helena couple has been charged with felony counts of criminal child endangerment after St. Peter’s Health emergency room staff alerted police to a child suffering from life-threatening malnourishment.

Robert James Morris, 37, and Lisa Annette Luis, 39, were arrested by Helena Police officers Wednesday and booked into the Lewis and Clark County Detention Center.

The arresting officer’s affidavit filed in court Thursday states the couple’s child was admitted into the emergency room Wednesday after another clinic told Luis to take the child to St. Peter’s.

The child was diagnosed with several medical conditions, including “nonorganic failure to thrive,” the affidavit states.

Luis told the officer she sought medical attention for the child because she believed he was dehydrated and “had not been able to drink anything for three days.”
