Helena man dies following car crash into Clark Fork River

A Helena man died after his car crashed into the Clark Fork River over the weekend.

On Saturday, a Dodge Durango carrying a 27-year-old man went off the right side of I-90 westbound near the East Missoula exit. It struck a guardrail, according to a Montana Highway Patrol crash report.

The Dodge re-entered the interstate, drove off the left side of the road and hit another guard rail. The vehicle tipped over the bridge deck, the report stated, and landed in the river below.

The driver was found dead downstream from his car. According to the report, he was not wearing a seat belt. Alcohol and drugs were suspected causes of the crash, according to the report. Road conditions were dry.

He was the only occupant of the car listed in the crash report.

The exact time of the crash is unknown, according to the report, but it happened sometime early Saturday morning. Authorities have not released the man’s name.
