Grand Forks Red River fall 1-0 to Shanley in state boys soccer tournament semifinal round

You’d never know it.

Shanley’s Peter Noah scored his first goal of the season on a header in the first half and the Deacons played solid defense and got help from the Rotary Field equipment to earn a 1-0 win over Grand Forks Red River in Friday’s first North Dakota state boys soccer tournament championship semifinal.

With 16 minutes, 6 seconds left in the first half, Christian Ulmer sent a cross into the box and the ball found Noah about 7 yards out.

“I kind of just hit it with the side of my head, it went to the ground on the right side and it went into the goal,” Noah said. “I was really happy because it was my first goal of the season.”

The Deacons are 7-7-4 overall, but knocked off West top seed Minot 1-0 in the quarterfinals and now have a shutout win over a 10-win Roughriders team.
