Downtown Helena Inc. to suspend operations, presses ‘reset’ button

The Downtown Helena Inc. board voted Tuesday to suspend operations for 2024 and focus on restructuring the nonprofit business membership group that lures people to the urban business corridor with activities and promotions.

Many in the room at the early morning meeting noted the decision comes at a time when Helena’s downtown area, in which Last Chance Gulch and its Walking Mall serves as a main artery, has been vibrant and drawing in crowds to the many restaurants, bars and other businesses.

They described the board’s decision, which was 5-0, as a “reset.” The board is planning to meet Wednesday to discuss strategy.

The Little Tykes Trick or Treat event downtown on Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, featured lots of children in costume.

Downtown Helena Inc. (DHI) officials and others at the meeting said many of the businesses and other organizations plan to continue with the activities, such as the soap box derby, Back to School Bash and Little Tykes Trick or Treat.
