David Hunt McKim, 49, was found dead Thursday in his Helena home on Washington Drive. He had taken his own life, Lewis and Clark County Sheriff/Coroner Leo Dutton said.

The coroner’s office was notified at 10:10 a.m. of a possible suicide. McKim was identified as the deceased.

“Our condolences to his family, friends and our community who mourn his loss,” Dutton said.

Helena High School students were notified Thursday that McKim had died and that counseling was available, a school district official said. Classes were not canceled.

Students were told McKim had taken his own life, a Helena Public Schools spokeswoman said. The school district declined to provide any more information Thursday.
