Eastbound traffic is moving, but delays are expected, according to the Montana Highway Patrol. The closure started around 1:48 p.m. So far, no injuries or accidents have been reported. Highway patrol is not sure when the interstate will reopen.

Troopers are on scene providing any assistance possible. To stay up to date, use the Department of Transportation’s interactive map or call 511.

Avalanche warnings are in place in western Montana and for the Cooke City area north of Yellowstone National Park because of heavy snow over the last several days. More is forecast for Friday, plus strong winds and some rain.

In northwestern Montana, the avalanche danger was listed as high in the Whitefish Range, in the Flathead Range including a portion of Glacier National Park, and in the Swan Range, the Flathead Avalanche Center said.
