Aldi in Grand Forks to hold grand opening Jan. 20

Aldi is coming to Grand Forks soon with a grand opening set for Jan. 20 and a soft opening some time in early December.

The store, which sells fresh produce, meat, deli items, snacks, drinks and other grocery items, as well as household items and toiletries, will be the the third of its kind in North Dakota, with the other two locations being in Fargo.

Aldi was founded in Germany in 1946 before it split into two halves 1960 — Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd. It has more than 11,000 locations worldwide, and it also operates some locations of the popular Trader Joe’s grocery chain.

Barry Wilfahrt, president and CEO of the Grand Forks/East Grand Forks Chamber of Commerce, said the excitement surrounding the new store comes down to more shopping choices for residents.

“I think any time you have a new brand that comes to town, people follow different brands and people get excited about different brands,” Wilfahrt said. “This is just more selection and more choice for the people of Grand Forks and the region.”
