1 to 6 inches forecast Tuesday in central Red River Valley

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the central Red River Valley from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23. During this time, snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are possible, with bands of 6 inches or more possible in some areas.

Snow will likely begin in the Devils Lake area before 6 a.m. and will move east, impacting Grand Forks around 8 a.m. and Bemidji around noon.

Drivers should slow down and use caution during Tuesday commutes, as roads will likely be slippery.

Drivers should also ensure their emergency supply kits are ready for use and stocked with a phone, charger, batteries, blankets, a flashlight, first-aid kit, high-calorie non-perishable food, a candle to melt snow for drinking water, a sack of sand or cat litter for traction, shovel, scraper and battery booster cables.

Ensure your battery, wipers and coolant are ready for travel, make sure your tires have good tread, and clear snow, ice and dirt from your windows, lights and camera.
